I'm a senior living with haemophilia

I'm a senior living with haemophilia

A lot has changed in the world of haemophilia in recent years. With advances in modern medicine, life with haemophilia is very different to how it was when you were growing up. For example, there is a better understanding of the effects of age-related conditions for people living with haemophilia.

As you grow older, you’ll experience health-related changes that come with age just like everyone else. Although everyone goes through these changes, seniors with haemophilia can be at greater risk than their peers. So to stay on top of your condition and minimise the risk of haemophilia-related problems, these changes need to be carefully managed with your healthcare team.

Meet Gert Grekow

At age 17 Gert lost his brother to haemophilia, a condition he too suffered from and had to endure for years without medication. But today, at 73, Gert Grekow is more alive than ever. This film is part of the project "Haemophilia stories" that was undertaken in collaboration with the European Haemophilia Consortium. Film: Goran Kapetanovich
